COVID Cases in BCS

Dashboard Definitions:


A student or staff member participating in on-campus activities who has tested positive for an active COVID-19 infection. Individuals who test positive are excluded from participation in any in-person/on-campus activity until the heath professional verifies that the individual meets the return criteria set by state and local health authorities.


The number of active cases at a school site as a percentage out of the total number of staff and students at the school.


Once the individual is cleared to return, they are no longer considered an active case and their case is removed from the dashboard "Confirmed Active Cases" count and added to "Resolved Cases."

 Only “confirmed active cases” are reported on the dashboard. A “confirmed active case” is defined as meeting the following criteria before it is added to the dashboard:
1. BCS has a confirmed positive test from a student or staff member. A positive test can be confirmed either by a parent or staff member providing a copy of the positive COVID-19 test result that the health official on campus will confirm OR confirmation from Maricopa County Department of Health Services of a positive test. Most often our health services team receives a copy of the test directly from the parent or staff member before confirmation from the County.
2. The person who has tested positive is confirmed to have been on a BCS campus during their infectious period. The infectious period is defined as starting 48 hours prior to the onset of COVID-19 symptoms or a positive test result, whichever came first and through the remainder of the infection.

" The purpose of the data included in this dashboard is to provide a transparent summary of active, reported, positive COVID-19 cases by school. An active case can be a student or staff member that has been participating in on-campus activities and has tested positive for COVID-19. Upon notification of a positive case, extensive procedures and protocols are immediately actioned by our charter and campuses. Once an individual is cleared to return to campus they are no longer considered an active case and their case is removed from the dashboard count and added to the resolved cases count.

Please note, Ball Charter Schools is following the Maricopa County Department of Health guidelines with regard to notifying employees and student families of positive COVID-19 cases. 

Parent Notifications of Positive Case

Ball Charter Schools continues to follow Maricopa County Health guidelines. Following these guidelines, it is not current practice to notify the entire school of a positive case. The process for parent/guardian notification is as follows:

Possible exposure letter sent to parents/guardians of students who have been in class with a reported positive case.

Following county investigation, parents/guardians of students required to quarantine receive a letter and phone call.

Please note, that it is possible, as a precaution, and in the best interests of our students and staff, the school may determine to temporarily close a specific campus program. If this is the case all students and families affected by such a decision will be notified directly.
